The Sylvan Lake Open Water Swim (SLOWS) is presented by RnR Premier Events. Sylvan Lake is the ideal place for an open water swim event and a weekend away in a beach destination town with plenty for family and friends to do as well.  

 

Falling at the perfect time of year for triathletes to allow those athletes wanting to practice their 2km race pace the week before Calgary 70.3 or Ironman Canada athletes completing the 4km distance a month before their race.

We also have a 500m event for ages 10+ so that is you are nervous or new to open water swimming this is a great opportunity to try it!

We also have an untimed kids event where kids can choose to swim between 100m - 500m with an adult if they wish.

Race Entry Fees 4km, 2km and 500m:

NOTE: you must be 14 as of race day to register for the 2km or 4km event. You must be 10 as of race day to register for the 500m. 

Register before December 31st (end of day) = $65

Register between January 1st - March 31st (end of day) = $75

Register between April 1st - May 31st (end of day) = $85

   *Guaranteed towel deadline May 31st

Register between June 1st - July 15th (end of day) = $95

Register between July 16th - July 19th (end of day) = $105

Race Entry Fees Kids Event (100m - 500m):

NOTE: this event is for ages 12 and under. This event is not timed. 1 parent may swim with each registered child.

Register before December 31st (end of day) = $25

Register between January 1st - March 31st (end of day) = $30

Register between April 1st - May 31st (end of day) = $35

Register between June 1st - July 15th (end of day) = $40

Register between July 16th - July 19th (end of day) = $45

The not so fine print: 

  • please read refund/transfer policy. By clicking REGISTER, you agree to these conditions

  • you must be 14 years or older (as of race day) to register for the 2km, 4km swim events

    • please note: this is regardless of athletic talent, experience or swim ability

  • you must be 10 years or older (as of race day) to register for the 500m swim event

  • the kids event is for kids ages 6 - 12 years

There are no refunds however, you can roll over your registration to 2025 for a fee of $25 BEFORE July 1st, 2024 or transfer your entry to another racer for a fee of $10.

After July 1st, there are no rollovers including injuries or illnesses.You may however, transfer your registration to another racer for a fee of $10.

You may transfer to another category within the Sylvan Lake Open Water Swim to a shorter distance for free, or to a longer distance for a charge of the difference of what you paid and the current price of entry up to July 19th, 2024.

Race Details

Sylvan Lake is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located 25 kilometers west of the City of Red Deer along Highway 11 or Highway 11A. It is situated on the southeast edge of Sylvan Lake, a 15-kilometre-long freshwater lake, in Red Deer County.

It is just over a 90-minute drive from Calgary to Sylvan Lake, and about an hour and 45 minutes from Edmonton.

The race starts and ends from Sylvan Lake Park (beside the beach volleyball courts).

The Sylvan Lake Open Water Swim starts and finishes at the beach area beside the volleyball courts.

Parking is all around except right in front of the main beach area as the road is closed during the summer. Please park in the areas and around and walk (approximately a 2 minute walk).

Package Pick Up - Sylvan Lake:

Friday, July 19th, 6pm – 8pm (Prairie Moon Inn) 

Saturday, July 20th 6am – 8am (race site)

 

Note:

  • We do not send race packs via mail.

  • Packages will not be available outside these hours.

  • You may have someone else collect your package with proof (ie. a text) giving them permission to pick up your package.

Race Weekend:

Friday, July 19th

5:00pm - 5:45pm - Open Water Swim Clinic

6:00pm - 6:45pm - Beach Yoga

Saturday, July 20th

6:00am - 7:00am - Package Pick Up

7:00am - Pre-Race Meeting - any last-minute changes will be communicated to you on the day.

7:15am - 4km rolling start 

7:20am - 2km rolling start

9:30am - swim cut-off for 2km and 4km event

9:45am - 2km and 4km Awards Ceremony

10:00am - 500m rolling start 

11:00am - swim cut-off for 500m event

11:15am - 500m Awards Ceremony

11:30am - Kids Swim 100m - 500m (this event is not timed)

NO NUDITY ALLOWED on beach or in water.

Please change prior to arriving and after you are finished in one of the washrooms near by. 

Spectators are welcome and will have good vantage points along the beach. Spectators may NOT be in kayaks/paddle boards and be alongside you as you swim. 

Race Course

2km swim = 1 lap

4km swim = 2 laps

Upon completion, athletes must run up onto shore to cross the timing mat under the finisher's arch.

The Sylvan Lake Open Water Swim has booked off rooms for the participants for the night of Friday July 19th.

The Prairie Moon Inn has booked off rooms with two queen beds and rooms with a king bed and pull out sofa.
